Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that in 1942 the War Relocation Authority was created to “Take all people of Japanese descent into custody, surround them with troops, prevent them from buying land, and return them to their former homes at the close of the war.”
In hindsight this was compared to the Nazi holocaust by some; however the USA camps were neither labor nor extermination camps. Additionally, the threat from Japan was so great that it made sense to separate anybody who might have allegiance to Japan.
The 442nd Regimental Combat team was composed of Japanese-Americans and had the highest casualty rate as well as a large number of awards for valor, many posthumous.

It's sad for all that they got $20,000 apology the US government but if they had already passed away their heirs didn't receive anything. Post Pearl Harbor paranoia was fostered by the instant on one of the islands were Japanese pilot crash-landed and influenced Japanese Farm hands to help him kill others. This was Tipping Point and that's where President Roosevelt made his decision to intern the Japanese. This was also done in Canada as well.
