Good post MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. a number of us were involved in developing threat/risk/vulnerability assessment scenarios back in 2005 with China consistently coming up as our biggest strategic threat. The military took it seriously, the politicians blew it off. Some people still see China as inferior and that could prove to be a huge mistake. We've underfunded our military especially in the R&D arena and China has passed us in several areas. As Lt Col Charlie Brown says " I hope not" in terms of war.
Just for kicks you might be interested in a quasi military Sci-Fi book called Monroe Doctrine by by James Rosone & Alex Aaronson which postulates a Chinese first strike. Interesting reading.

Militarily the Chinese are a serious threat and we learned that in 1950. Will anything happen between us, almost absolutely not. There is too much money involved and if you go back a thousand years, the only thing that interests the Chinese outside of their borders is $$$. A war with the US would dry up their biggest cash flow and they are not going to do it.
