West Point 2019 Seniors Receive US Army Branch Assignments

Nearly 1,000 West Point class of 2019, seniors received their US Army Branch assignments in ceremony at the USMA's Eisenhower Hall on November 14th. It was announced at the West Point Board of Visitors meeting last week that an increasing number of graduates would be assigned to Combat Arms branches of the Army from 70 to 75%, over 82% with program known as detailing which assigns new officers to combat units before heading to their specialty branch. The event keynote speaker was retired Maj Gen. Bob Ivany '69 graduate who told story of from Vietnam where he learned to not underestimate the potential of a soldier in your platoon.

Thank you for sharing, my friend Ken Kraetzer the news and accompanying video focused on the branch assignments for the USMA class of 2019. It is nice to see that notification is still via official letter instead of text message or worse tweet.

It is the U.S. Army so it makes sense that the vast majority of officers will have served in a combat unit long enough to get a fairly good understanding. We never know what life might throw at us right.

Ken Kraetzer Young officers are always trying to impress thier bosses. They usually do this by trying to find some ridiculous task for the NCOs and subordinates. When this happens we say "the good-idea-fairy just stuck."
