Security is the same as a regular router. Each mesh point derives it's settings from the base station.
The real issue is cost. A mesh set up can easily cost hundreds of dollars.

Security is not bad. On par with a typical router. I am running a 3 pack of Eero's in our house and the WiFi coverage is phenomenal! And yes, I've spent hundreds of dollars over the years on routers, access points, the angst of getting *all* the settings right, etc.
With that said, there are some short comings. IoT devices are still vunerable, QoS (Quality of Service), while good, needs some work in configuration. A lot of good suggestions and Eero is slowly rolling them out as they grow. https://community.eero.com/category/feature-requests
