Game meats and vegetables........Baked goods. It just took all day to make your meals because you had to make all the ingredients for all the food you made.

From what I've read in the past they lived off of animals they raised, if they lived in the country, wild game they shot, and if they had a garden, they harvest that in the fall and stored it for all winter eating.

COL Lee Flemming Several things stood out for me in this story- love this stuff:
From 1790 to 1815, only about 8,000 per year entered: When I lived in Phoenix in the 80s they had that many pouring in to the city proper every day.
4 out of 5 lived on a farm. Wonder what the figure in restrospect is now?
Wages for other industries during the time ranged from $10 to $17 a month for seamen. SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL Would like to compare that LES
Farm laborers earned $12 to $15 dollars a month, male school teacher earned $10 to $12 a month; a female teacher earned $4 to $10. Simpler times.
Great share Col.
