The recent events with my father have brought poignant negligence into view. With many veterans feeling a lack of confidence in medical services received through the VA, many are instead turning to mainstream hospitals and medical centers for their care. However, their are benefits to which you are entitled and can receive external from the VA. Don't count on your doctor or hospital to tell you about it, because they may not know. The hospital "Several doctors, nurses, social worker, etc, all told my father that he was now and hospice and that meant no further treatment for him. THAT IS NOT THE CASE WITH VETERANS. YOU CAN BE IN HOSPICE AND STILL SEEK EVEN AGRESSIVE TREATMENTS in order to extend and or enhance the quality of your life. I have spent many hours learning this stuff on my own, to the point that my head aches. I compiled this list of resources and links and published this article in the hopes that others may not suffer the same experiences.
