They pretty much did the whole thing backwards - "This is what we want. Lets look at evidence to get it" rather than "Based on the evidence, this is what we want."

Sgt Kelli Mays - I'm going to disagree. Obviously, we have suffered worse in other conflicts, but we're not the only ones in the equation. I don't think the region is better off with Saddam gone, murderous psychopath that he was. The misguided invasion of Iraq has turned into a tragedy of over-growing scale that I suspect we're going to get dragged back into much farther than we are now.

SGT Jeremiah B. - I personally have some friends born and raised in Iraq and they are thankful that there is no more Saddam. Have you actually spoken to anyone from there who lived under him...yes, there is chaos, but obama should not have pulled the troops out so fast....he should have taken care of the Iraqi's, get them set up and trained...we should have remained there for at least another year....but we don't have a crystal ball...but the truth is...once we pulled out...ISIS/ISIL started popping up....I had never heard of ISIS before this.

Sgt Kelli Mays - I too have Iraqi friends. Opinions vary, but most of the ones I know don't live there any more. I think we'd need to talk to average Iraqis actually living in Iraq to get the real pulse.
We can quibble about who did what all day, but there's no evidence that a continued American presence would have fixed a millennium old problem in any reasonable time frame. If anything, our withdrawal just sped up the inevitable.

I know that Bush Jr was aching for a Chance to get back at Saddam for the Contract He put on his Father after the war. Like anybody could carry it out! I suspect that Bush read the Intelligence Briefs how he wanted to read them with no Basis in Reality. I do remember that one of the CIA Briefs I used to read all the time would have querys postulated by Higher Echelons of Government and they would give a Percentage of that situation being the Case. I have more than a Sneaking Suspicion that someone would ask the CIA what were the Chances and they gave maybe 20-30% but Executive Branch of Gov't sold it to the Legislative and the American People like it was 80-100%. Just the View of someone that used to be on the Inside.
