The USS Nautilus is open for public display and visitors can go aboard and visit that nuclear submarine. This is located at the Navel Submarine Museum adjacent the Groton Navy Submarine Base, on the Thames River in Groton, CT The tour is complete on both interior levels and this hug sub. It is adjacent to a Submarine Museum, which is run by the US Navy. This picture shows the public access ramps to visit aboard the USS Nautilus which I have visited several times over the years. That sub has a crew of 111 men. The Navy Submarine museum plus the USS Nautilus are well worth visiting.

Across the river from the Groton US Navy submarine Base on the opposite bank in New London, CT also is the US Coast Guard Academy. The USCG training ship Eagle is based there. Both have easy access exits from Interstate Route 95 which runs from Maine to Florida. To enter the USCG Academy grounds You would have to have proper ID.

I may add also slight North of that location also also along Route 95 in Mystic, CT is the Mystic Seaport which appears just as it had in the 1700s and with sailing ships from that time period. The entire seaport buildings as well as ships can be visited there. In addition Mystic has a large marine museum with live sea life displays to include sharks, porposes, sea lions and even a live beluga whale plus shows with porposes.
