I never saw anyone fail to qualify when I went thru basic, the bulk of those that I trained with during BCT were farm boys shipmate PO2 (Join to see)

I'm pretty sure the nurses at my first base helped a few of my squadron mates qual. Those ladies may have been good in the hospital, but they'd hit 2 or 3 other's targets on the range.

19th year in the army I went to a 9mm range. I had always qualified expert, but I tried to qualify 4 times and failed. I sat down on the bleachers and realized it was time to hang up my boots. I was irrelevant in my eyes. I was kind of sad.

One thing I learned in the Air Force was that we all contribute in different ways. You didn't have to be a marksman or sharpshooter to be part of the fight. You may make that part of your persona, but I was always proud to be a technically proficient engineer. My fight was enabling others to deliver the explosions. I could show up anywhere in the world and help others to project our power anywhere on the planet.

Yes, I count the AF to gain air superiority over Russia and China if we go to war. Win the air and we will win the ground. Own the ground and air and enemy targets are easier to destroy in their countries! Some people get carried away with their self perceived greatness. The SMs in other branches might boast how bad ass they are, but I can respond for example does any other branch have the ability to let loose 3,000 M1 tanks in Desert Storm?
