True. It's much more than making the VA more efficient or "good." It's about actually having an actionable plan that will help reduce suicides among veterans.

I think making it efficient would go a long way. A lot of Veterans feel abandoned by the system, making them feel worthless. The other problem I've seen, and this may be only local as I'm not experienced with other VAs, is the counseling is substandard. In many cases using techniques no longer supported by the APA, some of the Veterans have been sent "out on the economy" and they later found out the counselor/psychologist wasn't qualified to practice in the state, and many of the counselors are, for a lack of a better term, merely doing a residency at the VA.
As for an actionable plan, we won't get it from either candidate as long as they can continue to garner support by calling each other names.

Veterans' suicide rates aren't really that high per capita; there's nothing you're going to do to change human nature. Let's worry about taking care of people and look at the statistics later.

The VA Needs to be reworked and getting to The basics of treating the Vets and the Politicians need to get Their heads handed to them...
