I recall first learning of this incident and the background in HS history where it was briefly rushed over in the 2d semester. I was then and always have been amazed that such would happen in this great country in any day and age and that MacArthur and Patton were actually involved in the incident. It didn't seem to hurt their careers and is an excellent example of the misuse of Federal military services in a law enforcement capacity.

A very ugly episode looking back at it from our perspective now. I knew about Patton and MacArthur (I hate that guy) being involved with it, but didn't know Dugout Doug was actually in the fray.
