CPL Dave Hoover-Not that I ever had to use it in combat, but it was the most reliable weapon on my jamming M16 in Vietnam, one of my least favorite duties at Ft. Polk was a fill in instructor on the grenade range, those shaking trainees gave me the willies, couldn’t wait to get back to the swamps of the patrolling range.

If you run out of rounds, either stab them, or club them.

Pictured is the Buddha statue overlooking the Vietnamese coastal city of Nha Trang. When I was assigned to Trai Trung Dung just a few clicks west of this monument, the SF there told the story that, during Tet of '68, the VC had captured the Buddha and established a machine gun position there. The S.Vietnamese troops given the mission of retaking the "hill" did so "on-line" and without any ammunition so as not to damage the landmark. That is, they advanced with fixed bayonets. The bayonet is obsolete except when you need one. Then it is no longer obsolete. Also, how am I going to open my "Ham and Lima Beans" C-ration can if I can't find my trusty P-38; by bayonet, of course.
