Interesting, BUT... (You just knew there was a "but" coming, didn't you?) Much of the problem in the US stems from the democratization of our government. In California, for example, we have the referendum process and it's been responsible for more bad laws being passed by the people than good. Whenever faced with ballot propositions, I'm stumped. I don't have the time or resources to study them fully. Most people vote as they are persuaded by the propagandists for and against each. That's why we elect representatives to a legislature who are given salaries so they have the time to consider issues and vote in our best interests. They are given staffs to help them. They have budgets to reach out to constituents and poll their opinions. Which brings us to the next problem. Our representatives don't have time or resources to do their jobs because they're too busy getting reelected. Now, I neither know nor care about broken governments in other parts of the world, but I know that ours can be fixed only when We the People elect better representatives and hold them accountable. It's really as simple as that. Sadly, politics has gotten in the way...

But initiative, recall, & referendum give the people an ACTIVE VOICE. It’s not our fault if most of the PEEPUL are illiterate morons.
An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people

I'm with you CPT Jack Durish as long as your definition of better representatives includes those who don't put party loyalty before We the People.

Nope. Lost me at globalism. I'm so tired of so many people thinking that a global government is a key to some kind of universal success for all nations. Let the nations that are unable to function fail and be replaced or conquered. Let those nations that are able to weather the storm continue to prosper. I do not want to see people outside of the United States having an opinion in how we do things just as I don't believe that it is our place to meddle in the affairs of other countries unless extreme circumstances warrant such action.
In addition, by attempting to create governments that are "technologically savvy" we open the door to the very real threat of hacking and electronic system warfare. Frankly, bring back the paper ballot, require a physical identification to turn the damn thing in, and have each ballot be physically counted in order to keep computers and the ability to "hack" political process completely out of the equation. There is a place for technology in our society, but at some point, there needs to be a time where we realize that we may be opening up too many avenues for shady things to be done simply by making an effort to make things easier on us.
