Why I Serve - MSG John Melson

I just received a video as part of a message from one of my Step-Son's longtime friends in the Boston area... I know MSGT John Melson personally and about four years back put together a video of him being commended by then Chief of Staff of the Army, four star general Raymond Odierno... At that time, Melson, was a Sergeant First Class and a former U.S. Marine... At that time Melson had earned:

2-Purple Hearts
4-Bronze Stars, 1 With V-device for Valor
2-Army Commendation Medals with V-device for Valor
5-Army Commendation Medals
1-Army Achievement Medal
and more.

He is now an instructor in the Mississippi Army National Guard and is a Ranger, Airborne, and a Sapper. He is currently attending the Sergeant Major Academy in Fort Bliss, Texas.
