I am glad the article differentiated between the 26 plus million veterans and the almost 9 million of us disabled veterans. COL Mikel J. Burroughs
I am glad they laid out Hillary's government-focused and limited plan and Donald's leveraging the government to cover civilian medical capabilities for the veterans. The Federal government is the least efficient organization in this nation.
1 "Hillary Clinton has pledged to ensure veterans have access to timely and high-quality health care and vows to block efforts to privatize the Veterans Health Administration, the VA’s health-care arm. Clinton also wants to bolster veterans’ benefits, including education and housing aid included in the GI bill. She would ensure that military sexual trauma is acknowledged as a disability under VA rules."
2. "Donald Trump says he will expand programs that allow veterans to choose their doctor — regardless of whether they’re affiliated with the VA — and still receive government-paid medical care. Trump says that’s not privatized care but, he told The Associated Press, “a way of not allowing people to die waiting for doctors.”
Trump also pledged to fire or discipline VA employees who fail veterans or breach the public trust. He also would increase mental health professionals and create a “White House hotline” dedicated to veterans. If a valid complaint is not addressed, “I will pick up the phone and fix it myself if I have to,” Trump said."

One of the largest problems in the whole VA is that Congress ALWAYS make the VA their own gate keeper. The VA has a vested interest in refusing outside care to veterans. For internal care, the VA reimburses itself from federal patient care dollars to other categories within the VA. If the care is provided externally, then the money leaves the VA system. There should be default authorizations for outside care if the procedure cannot be performed locally by the VA within the time standard for the healthcare industry.

I have already seen where I had a choice to have surgery outside the VA. Veterans Choice. It worked wonderfully. No cost to me at all. Just got my general surgery about 60 days sooner than at the VA. Not a bad deal for me at all. I would like to see an expansion of those types of programs as well as more availability of local clinics. I always have trouble contacting my primary Doctor. Ability to contact is an issue.

Thanks for the post COL Mikel J. Burroughs - The current VA needs a total revamp. Our current POTUS has promised change and from what I have witnessed the only change has been no change. Now we have HRC who promises to get things done - look at her record and then tell me if she is the one to make things happen.
The article states, “With nearly 370,000 employees and an annual budget of nearly $167 billion, the VA is the largest civilian agency in the government, and second overall to the Defense Department.” With that many employees and that huge budget they should be taking care of the veterans needs as quick as McDonalds takes care of customers.
Trump knows how to get things done! He is our only chance or we will have another 4 to 8 years of getting nothing done. Our Veterans deserve the best.

I have very little trust in the VA, I'm actually so disgusted, I have private health care. I take anything Hillary says, with not a grain of salt, but the whole salt shaker. I'm hoping for a complete turnaround in administrations. Let's see if American can be "Great Again"
