Range. Can you fire a bow as accurately as a musket at the same max range?

accuracy was hardly thought of in the day an age of the musket. While it had a max range of 175 yards. battles typically took place at the 50y range to inflict the most damage. The most damage inflicted is more though about. Also training was a big issue its easy to throw a musket in someone's hands and let them fire it. To fire a bow with some degree of use takes lots more training. A bow and a musket can effectively fire the same distance a musket will do more damage. The tactics in the day and age centered around bayonet charges and short distance shots to inflict lots of damage.

Accuracy with a well trained man that knew his equipment was thought of. It was also effectively employed with a musket as far back as the Revolutionary War when our side used them to snipe officers on the other side. Gen Fraser getting shot off his horse comes to mind.

Which Came First, America or the Sniper?
Though recent world records may make you think otherwise, the modern day sniper is an American concept, conceived during the War of Independence. It’s initial psychological impact on the British in 1775 was truly damaging and the Americans saw that by selectively targeting officers and non-coms

http://www.americanrevolution.org/murphy.php This is a second good reading that supports the idea that sniping was in the arsenal, and that act was being done from range, with a musket. Excellent reading if you have some down time on duty.

He missed some things and misstated others in my opinion.
Arrow wounds were excruciatingly painful. The only way to remove them was to push them all the way through. The rate of fire with a bow was more than double the rate of fire with a musket in the Civil War. Civil War soldiers carried a standard load of 40 bullets. It would not be that difficult to carry 40 or more arrows.
Why I'd rather have a musket.
It shoots flatter. Shooting a bow 300 yards is rather impossible if you're in the woods. You need a lot of open air between you and the target.
I can shoot it from the prone or from behind cover. An archer pretty much stands out in the open to fire or at least needs cover that's as tall as he is.
Long bows were long range weapons. Muskets could shoot several hundred yards but the closer the enemy got, the more accurate it became. Plus, it had a bayonet on the end of. Bows didn't.

Your right but the way that Europeans used arrows was as indirect fire weapons that why they used them in mass had them fire volleys blanketing an area with arrows. While their was exceptions like with the Huns who actually used their short bows as long of sight weapons. All things aside for European warfare purposes the gun was just proved to be a more economical way of warfare overall.
