Why the U.S. Navy Needs to Study Battleships to Save the Aircraft Carrier

Are we really contemplating retiring the whole of the carriers? Is that actually a thing? If so, it's an incredibly stupid thing.

History can often be our best teacher. They are looking into smaller carriers and also changing the amphibs such as the America class, that sacrifices a well deck for more room for aviation. I guess the rationale is that we will never need to ferry Marines ashore by surface means in an opposed landing. The shift to LCS's is more experimentation, as is the Zumwalt DDG-1000. This is a specialized mission for battleships. The threat to our fleets are enemy planes, missiles, and torpedoes. I would rather spend money on the defense of our fleets.
