An article in international law has been interpreted for years to mean they are banned in military conflict. Though the US didn't sign this portion, we generally abide by it.

We have match grade .308 ammo for our sniper rifles that is HPBT.

Completely agree. Ammo should match application, in many cases this means JHP is superior to FMJ. Although some frangibles, some specialized barrier blind rounds and some other exotics can be even better in some cases.

As an police officer for 27 years with 13 years on a full time tactical unit and a deployment to Iraq in 2008 I completely agree that hollow points ammunition should be used on human combatants. FMJ's still have a role on light skinned vehicles. The most critical way to assure one and two shot kills are shot placement on critical organs which requires physical and mental discipline when using deadly force.

SSG (Join to see), I looked up the regs on military ammunition and there is nothing written forbidding hollow point ammunition. When I squirrel hunted I found out using hollow point .22 rounds dropped them on the first shot. I was using .22 long rifle, but some of them ran off even though they were hit. I neck shoot deer with a 30.06 hollow point. I wish hollow point rounds could have been used in Nam. Al of my home weapons are loaded with hollow point ammo.
