This is an interesting piece. I believe the cause of all this is deep fear. Fear that we are not enough ourselves and must believe in someone else to save us, fear of others unlike us "taking over," and fear of change. It's all in our thoughts and how we approach it, and we could do better than this. I love my freedom, however, and will always reject authoritarianism.

Definitely the author fears current changes and think they are ominous, I see them as very positive and a sign that freedom is headed for another major expansion on the planet in the not too distant future. Though I will say, freedom in the United States is probably expanding vs retracting under the current POTUS.

SPC Erich Guenther - You may have a point about the earth part--lots of changes going on. And we are always in change, sometimes just more than others. But I disagree that freedom is expanding under the current POTUS (I think it's retracting), so tell me in what ways do you see he has he expanded freedoms?

What authoritarian measures has President Trump put into place? How has our freedom been diminished?

This is a year old. Some of these are probably changed: https://foreignpolicy.com/2017/07/27/top-10-signs-of-creeping-authoritarianism-revisited/

Is the president looking more like a dictator after six months in the White House?

Capt Gregory Prickett And now for the rest of the story.
1) In your example at DFW the US Citizen the 11 month old was not denied entry. The Sudanese green card holder was flagged for additional screening. Once the US Citizen father arrived at the airport, and CPB exercised due diligence to ensure that the father was in fact the father of the child, the child was turned over to the father, and the mother was allowed entry, but her entry was delayed by hours. I could find no article that specified just how many hours. The presence of a child is not a free pass card.
2) The saga in part seems to go back to evidence that arose in the 1990s that some midwives and physicians in Texas were fraudulently issuing birth certificates for babies actually born in Mexico. In part because of how incredibly difficult it was to identify such cases among the far greater number of babies delivered by the same people in entirely legitimate circumstances, most litigation over this issue ended in 2009. The Department of State is affording these people the opportunity to provide further documentation. I freely admit that taking those measure while the subject is on the wrong side of the border gives every appearance of being wrong. However I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO problem with revoking US citizenship from anyone and everyone who obtained it illegally. If it is not legal to strip their citizenship, it should be.
3) I'm already hip deep in the freedom of the press issue with someone else
