This is good, actually. The nation needs qualified mariners to propagate commerce, and...yes. War. A little-recognized fact is that the US Merchant Marine delivers something like 80% of materiel to war theaters throughout the world.

I love me some air force pilots. But they ain't doing most of the moving.

This is a good program. Qualified US Mariners can make 6-figure salaries pretty easily....working just 6 months a year. (RP, you REALLY need the ability to italicize!)

Of course, that comes with a fuck-ton of training. Fire fighting. Small boat handling. Hazmat handling. Water survival. Bridge resource management. Marlinspike seamnship.

The list goes on and on. Allowing Naval training to count for some of this is a huge boon.

That sure seems like a good idea to take advantage of that Navy training and make a easier transition into Merchant Marine Seamen. Even if there is a shorter transition course to give credit for what is already in their experience and training seems a win win situation.
