Here's my problem with this study. The best way to train to be able to do an exercise is to do THAT EXERCISE. If you can't do pullups, you need to start with iso holds, negatives, and partial reps. They did rows and cable pulldowns which do not directly translate to the pull-up.

Surprise to me. The Most I've ever seen done were by a Female Marine that was at Corry Station going thru A-School with me.

It's not just strength. There's technique. As SGT (Join to see) correctly points out, "The best way to train to be able to do an exercise is to do that exercise." In what may have been Alex Karras' first movie, The 500 Pound Jerk, an advertising executive stumbles upon an incredibly strong "hillbilly" while traveling the back roads of America and dreams of winning gold by entering him into the Olympics. A coach dashes his dreams when he demonstrates that strength alone does not make an Olympic weight lifter. A romantic comedy, the 500 Pound Jerk ultimately escapes with a Russian gymnast. Although a farce, the movie makes the point...
