Ordinarily, I stay away from Quora, but this question challenged me and I had to answer...
If you have to ask, nothing I can say will ever persuade you otherwise. But your question is a challenge that I cannot ignore. First of all, check you facts. Yes, there is horrific violence in America, but there is horrific violence everywhere. Sadly, the Left-dominated media in America has an agenda to fundamentally change this nation and use a narrative to persuade people that it needs changing. However, if you check the facts you’ll find that violent crime in America has become less and less frequent since 1968 while gun ownership has increased. Also, if you remove the major American metropolitan areas such as Chicago, NYC, Washington, etc, from the equation, cities which have laws that infringe on gun ownership and use, and consider the rest of the nation where gun ownership is freely practiced, you’ll find that this nation ranks about third from the bottom in the list of all nations for gun violence. Meanwhile violent crimes in nations where the right to keep and bear arms is not recognized, is on the rise. Lastly, the American media will not report instances where guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens have prevented crime. Just brandishing a gun causes criminals to look elsewhere for easier targets. How often? Well, estimate vary. If the weapon is fired, there is no question and the incident is tallied. Thus we see about 200,000 such instances each year, far outstripping the use of guns to commit crimes. Estimates where the weapon was merely brandished run from 300,000 to 1 million incidents each year. That being said, I don’t remain in America for guns. I remain for all the rights, the opportunities, the freedom that only Americans enjoy.

To paraphrase Maximus from Gladiator: " I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, [America] is the light.
While calling America "The Light" may be somewhat of an overstatement, I have in fact seen much of the world and for me there is no better place than right here. Do we have problems? Sure. Show me a country that doesn't. But at least we don't live in fear of our government (I mean real fear). When's the last time troops kicked in your door and searched your home without a warrant? Have you ever had to stand in line for food because there was none to be had anywhere? Have you been imprisoned and held without trial? These things happen all over the world everyday. So yeah, we've got issues, but it could be much worse.

There is a picture of American Soldiers protecting an Iraqi family during a fire fight. They don’t know these people but their basic decency says protect those that can’t protect themselves. There is a picture of an American hauling an enemy combatant to safety during a combat operation and a British soldier is saying what are you doing. If you don’t understand those basic things then maybe you need to ask the question. If you do understand those basic things the question is rediculous!

I have no desire to live outside the USA ever ! I have seen what happens in some other countries and things Americans take for granted that just aren't the reality in many other places. I would say a bit more but read the posting by Captain Scott Everett here, He already said what I would say. We may not be perfect but its sure closer than most places .
