My wife has a significant hearing loss (since birth). 100% in her left ear, 80% in her right. A cochlear implant is not viable. While on active duty, Tricare subsidized the majority of the cost. Now that I'm retired, no coverage for hearing aids. Our last hearing aid purchase a few years ago was $3k+. I was unaware of this monopoly within the Hearing Aid Industry and thank you for the insight.

Sir, I feel bad for you. My father, before he passed, had bad hearing and I remember the costs of decent aids were ridiculous so instead he just went without. Now it is bad enough for the person who has the poor hearing, but pardon my saying so, but those around as well. The loud TV, the lack of understanding what is being said... I hardly ever had a telephone conversation with my father because he simply couldn't understand the conversation.
This is just one of many issues the government needs to get out of the way. I hope something can be done, or should I say will be done (we all know it can be). Good luck to you sir.

My hearing aids were free through the VA, although it did take six years to convince my VA primary care provider in WV to arrange for a hearing test.
