There was a day when Craftsman meant craftsman. Those days are long gone.

I have a load of them because I grew up using them as my dad had a garage full of them. The tools I bought 30 years ago were really good. The tools now, same as the crap you can by just about anywhere.

I remember back when Craftsmen Power Tools were quality homeowner grade tools. It's been decades. I spent too much money as a young married man, a long time ago, only to find out that Craftsman wasn't my Dad's Craftsman anymore. I take care of my tools but use them a lot. None of those power tools lasted two years. Truth is most power tools are aren't made by the label anymore. They are made in China, at the same half a dozen factories. The only difference is cosmetic and how much we pay for an undeserved reputation. The Chinese are selling us crap and laughing all the way to the bank.

A gross generalization on quality of Power tools and small appliances :
Best - German
Next Best - American and English
Better - Japanese
Adequate - Eastern European
Inadequate - Mexico
Absolute Crap - Chinese

Anymore, if I can't find an honest to God German power tool or appliance, I go to auctions, where I buy pre-NAFTA era tools, and refurbish them myself. They will last longer than any Chinese crap I buy and cost 50%-60% less, including rehab.
