With newer weapons and technology, upping the size of the squads sounds like a great idea MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D.

I don’t think an increase nor a decrease of squad size is relevant to the problem....
The problem is the decentralized command structure that is required in modern warfare vs the level of leadership training and effectiveness of mission command on lower levels.
Combating unconventional wars requires unconditional units... which leads to a complexity in command authority and therefore a much higher level of authority on lower level.
This leads to a far greater need for decentralized combat support systems as well as direct and indirect fire support decentralization demands to other teeth arms.
