Funny thing happened on a recent trip from Alabama to Colorado. Was on I-40 headed West to Colorado (home) and for most of the afternoon and evening myself and another car that looked like mine would cross paths. Well it started to get dark and we crossed paths one last time, and the other drive blew past me, and then about 10 minutes later, a trooper came up behind (no Lights), apparently read my plates and took off again. several miles down the road, the other car that looked like mine was on the side with the trooper, getting a ticket.
I guess it was a good thing I was too tired to drive fast.

CPO Andy Carrillo, MS The license plate reader technology is a great tool to law enforcement. The department loads the list of vehicles they are looking for into the system and the system scans vehicles while the police officer patrols his/her assigned area. There have been several valid arrest made using this technology.
Like any technology, there is always the possibility for abuse. I recall cases where some local police were using this to capture and record the license plates in areas with adult entertainment and known prostitution areas, until they caught some city councilmen who were "just checking out the areas". Bottom line, any technology can be misused.

While I am all for locking up criminals CPO Andy Carrillo, MS, I do believe license plate readers should be declared unconstitutional.
