I was lucky enough to be invited to a Christmas Reunion of Pearl Harbor survivors over in Hawaii back in the 80's. I got to mingle with them as they chatted about that day. Some were at Pearl Harbor, some at Hickam, and some over at Kaneohe ...and quite a few from Schofield which also got strafed.
One of the guys comments I still remember very well:
"Heck half of us were drunk from Saturday Shore Leave, the other half were getting ready for Church. Hell of a way to start a Sunday. I was so mad, I threw wrenches at the damn planes . "
To which another Sailor said:
"Any luck?"
And those guys roared.
