Kind of bittersweet move. The M-16 & M-4 variants have established themselves just as did the M-14 which replaced the M-1 Garand, and when the M-14 was replaced by the "Little Black Mattel Toy" mentioned initially.

SSG William Jones Nailed It, When I Joined in 76 they were still in the process of Phasing Out the M-14 which I thought was an Excellent Rifle.
