Zapad: What can we learn from Russia's latest military exercise?

Lesson #1. Russian helicopter pilots don't like journalists.

It's understandable Russia took lessons learned from Georgia, Ukraine and other internal conflicts to improve their technology, tactics and strategy, but I wonder how much they observed US operations in Iraq and Afghanistan as well when it comes to their improved EW, cyber, and conventional warfare capabilities leading up to this exercise?
