MASH had its humorous points but I do not think it was intended to solely be considered a comedy.

I disagree. MASH has its serious tone, but I definitely think comedy when I think of MASH. I think they made it funny intentionally, to poke at the the silly parts of the military that civilians dont see/understand. For that very reason I absolute love MASH.

I was amazed, while I was stationed in Korea just how man references in MASH were real references. The 8063rd was a real unit. The site of the 8063rd is now a South Korean military hospital.
