You have a good point. This is not a species that died because of humanity encroaching on previous natural habitat. Mammoth died multiple millennia ago for a reason before humans even became dominant.

Article also mentions ethical concerns of resurrecting an extinct species. It reminds me of scene from Jurassic Park movie where one scientist talks about difference between preserving species that humanity destroyed vs. species that died due to God / Universe / nature.
