With an entity as big as the Air Force there is not one person that can change all of the flaws/issues. Gen Welsh is a man of his word and has strong convictions about taking care of Amn and their families. With that said there are too many levels of beuracracy beneath him. On top of that, he can say one thing but those charged with executing his vision will intrepret it the way they hear it and sadly want to. It is the responsibility of the leadership at the operational and strategic levels to take care of Airmen and put common sense back into enforcement of the AFIs. Gen Welsh said the same thing himself during many of his speeches. If it doesn't make sense then why do we do it.

He will damn sure try. I think there is quite a bit of tweaking to do. One cannot fix all the things w/o predicting how corrections will affect other areas.

Thanks for the response A1C Roberts. I surely hope you're right, because there's a lot to be accomplished. When I knew him, he pushed for success but not to the point of breaking people. In today's AF I'm not so sure many have that same concern.

That's what we need, then. Someone who will push for improvement. We need to shake the lax attitude and continue to improve. I hope he looks at the plans brought up by those simply putting forth ideas to "get ahead" on promo boards, but the plans are crap. He can nix those in inception & save us all the headache!

Yes, there are a lot of things wrong with today's Air Force. I'm not saying it's awful but there's plenty of room for improvement. A good place to start is also leadership roles, as everybody is trying to make a name for themselves by changing "things" that don't need changing and without thought of who these changes are affecting. The enlisted are always asked to participate in anonymous surveys; however, the initial questions automatically identify who in the unit is responding and many require a CaC card to access. How does anyone expect to get accurate responses from such surveys? Heck, why not just ask in a non-attribution environment or one-on-one sessions. Everybody’s so worried about PC and appearances now and everybody’s looking out for themselves. The Air Force used to be mission-driven but has now largely become me-driven with the mission secondary to leadership.
