The 4 Most Hardcore Skills of Combat Vets
|
Combat vets face many challenges when they return from deployments and, oftentimes, they feel like their skills can’t carry over to the civilian world. Truth is, the skills they developed while deployed are irreplaceable. Combat veterans are survivors; they are fighters and, most importantly, everyday heroes. Here are just some of the reasons why combat veterans are warriors in and out of uniform! |
|
Skill #1: There is no such thing as too much stress. |
If you were to ask civilians if they lead stressful lives, most would probably say yes. But let’s be real - do they really know the stress of being deployed for 9-12 months? When you are in a combat zone, you need to be prepared for every situation. A small package could be an IED or a woman crossing the street could be a suicide bomber. Combat vets thrive in high stress situations and, when a split-second decision could save lives, they don’t collapse under stress but quickly step up to the plate. |
|
Skill #2: Multi-tasking isn’t just something they do; it’s a way of life. |
No matter what branch of service you are in, you need to learn how to multitask at a very early stage. From the very beginning, you are trained to maintain awareness of your environment, communicate with others, and look for surrounding threats...all at the same time. The skill of multitasking is so important that many wouldn’t survive their deployments without it. Now, go ask a civilian to hold a simple conversation while memorizing the positions of every person in the room and alert you when anyone moves...see what happens. |
|
Badass skill #3: The harder the work, the happier they are to do it. |
When you are deployed, you are constantly on “go” mode. You learn to sleep when you can (often not in a bed), you eat what is provided, and you don’t complain. What many don’t realize is, even before deployment, there are months of training and conditioning, separation from family and friends, and then the actual deployment. Combat vets repeat this grind again and again because serving their country is their duty. Even more, if you were to ask any retired combat vet if they would serve again should they be called upon, the answer would always be yes. Being deployed isn’t just a job; it’s a lifestyle of hard work and honor. |

Skill #4: They can adapt to any situation and can work in any group setting |
In the military, you are taught to adapt to any setting. When you serve our country, you have to be willing to do anything, be willing to learn on the fly, and be willing to make sacrifices. In a combat zone, crazy scenarios suddenly appear in the blink of an eye. Combat veterans are used to these quick changes in plans, and are never thrown off by them. They quickly work together to find the most effective and useful solution to any situation. Veterans are the best team players and leaders around! |
