I'm really wanting to become a chinese linguist in the Air Force, but I'm not sure how.
I know about the DLAB and stuff, but I have been studying chinese for 5 years and I've wanted to be a chinese linguist from the beginning. The thing is, I don't want to get Arabic or Czech or Indonesian or any other language other than chinese. Is there any way for me to tell them that I am very good at chinese and that I would function much better in their benefit if I were a chinese linguist? This question has been bugging me ever since i started learning chinese so answering this question would mean the world to me.

It all depends on the needs of big blue. That goes with any AFSC in the AF. I can't give much of a god description considering I am a retired 3A, but it all depends on the needs of big blue.

There's a spot on most forms that asks what languages you read/write/speak on your application forms usually. Write Chinese in there if you've been doing that for 5 years. Also go talk to a recruiter and see if they can help out (even if you are already in they may think of something you have not). If you are already in, talk to your CO and keep asking him (squeaky wheel may have to do push-ups but he will remember you when a slot opens).

CHRISTOPHER..?... This Is Difficult To Answer, Because I Lived In Panama With My Brother, But Just For 3 Years. You Can Take All The Classes You'd Like, But You'll Learn The Language On The Streets, Talking To The People......
I Learned That Almost Immediately......My Daughter Wanted To Learn French, But I Kept Telling Her To Study Spanish As Spanish Is Useful Here, But French Wouldn't Serve Her Very Well In The USA .
My Daughter Wasted 2 Years Studying French. The Field Trip Was From Michigan To Canada. When She Returned Home, I Asked : .."Other Than Discovering, With 2 Years Of French, You Still Can't Speak The Language, How Was Your Trip.?"... She Replied "I Should Have Taken Spanish"..... SO I Don't Really Know How Much Classes Would Help, But They Might Help You Learn The Basics & Give You A Head Start ...
