2 Kings 13:1-25 ; Revelation 21:1-27

TRUE WORTH
In today’s Bible verse, the word “soul” is sometimes translated as “life.” Jesus was talking about losing our spiritual life which would be the loss of our soul. A soul is not lost meaning that it can be misplaced, or meaning that it does not exist anymore. To “lose” your soul means the loss of your spiritual well-being, which means being separated from God by sin in your life, and ultimately separated from God for eternity.

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mark 8:36-37)

Jesus is teaching us about gaining the world and losing our soul in return. This shows us that Jesus’ message challenged us to make choices. You read that Jesus calls on us to follow Him. Will you? Jesus calls on us to deny ourself and take up his cross and follow Him. The big question is. Will you?

“When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Mark 8:34)

Jesus wants you to give up your devotion to yourself and your own desires and count Jesus and His will as being most important in your life. Will you do that? Jesus makes it very clear that He doesn't want you to be ashamed of Him and His words. Will you?

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:38)

Mark 8 shows you that you have to make decisions, important decisions, tough decisions, decisions that will determine where you will spend eternity. And, right here in the middle of these decisions is Jesus’ question about what does it profit us if we could gain the whole world and lose our own soul in the process. What is your answer?

In the big picture, what would it profit us? Jesus’ questions cause us to think about what really matters in our lives. In your heart of hearts, just what is it that ranks right up there in the top position on your list of “most important stuff?”

Your soul is by far your most valuable possession to God you have, but do you have the same outlook? Will you be more concerned about your soul’s security more than you are in the securing of your material resources? What will it profit? What will it cost?

What is important in your life? If you were to meet Jesus right now, would it really matter?
Do you need Prayer? We are here to pray with you.
“Heavenly Father, I thank You for my life In You. Your Son, Jesus, gave His very life for me to live eternally with You. I will not allow anything or anyone to take from my serving You. I know the riches of this world are only temporary, but life with You is for eternity. To live for the moment and lose my soul, is not life. Someday, we will come face to face, and I want You to say “well done thou good and faithful servant.” I honor You, my Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
