18-29 Dec. 1972: U.S. begins Operation Linebacker II, the "Christmas bombing" of targets in the Hanoi and Haiphong areas of North Vietnam. Conducted by a force of about 200 B-52s and more than 1,000 tactical aircraft, a total of 20,000 tons of bombs were dropped, and more than 1,600 civilians were killed.

The U.S. reported losing 12 tactical aircraft and 16 B-52s, with 43 airmen killed and 49 taken prisoner. The Americans further claimed the destruction of six MiG-21s (two by B-52 tail gunners).

I believe I remember this one. We were big on watching the news every evening, a habit that stays with me today.

This should have been done around 1968, and not tell the North a warning that the B 52's were coming. Stupid LBJ. As far as I was concerned all North Vietnam civilians were the enemy, no such thing as innocent civilians. Kill them all.

And now we tell Israel to tell their enemies where they are going to bomb/ strike with tanks/ troops, and specifically the day date and time of the attack - it's done to " help save civilians" . And it's working just about as good as it did with us doing it in Vietnam.
