I didn't know how to bring this to Captain Jack's attention ...but I hope it helps. I wanted to put a sample of Darwin's writing style ...but I had to skip to the third paragraph of his original work. As the first two paragraphs were written in a hurry (at least for him) as Wallace was forcing him to Publish before he was ready. And that is a story in, and of, itself.
if you compare this little sample, to the MEME someone is trying to play off as a quote, you can, I think, see both how distinctly different the tone, style, and word choice is- and the difference in subject matter.
It took me three years to sludge through his book, it is not an easy read for someone from the 20th Century ...the word "ponderous" comes to mind.
So here is Paragraph 3 from: "On The origin of Species:"
"This Abstract, which I now publish, must necessarily be imperfect. I cannot here give references
and authorities for my several statements; and I must trust to the reader reposing some confidence
in my accuracy. No doubt errors will have crept in, though I hope I have always been cautious in
trusting to good authorities alone. I can here give only the general conclusions at which I have
arrived, with a few facts in illustration, but which, I hope, in most cases will suffice. No one can
feel more sensible than I do of the necessity of hereafter publishing in detail all the facts, with
references, on which my conclusions have been grounded; and I hope in a future work to do this.
For I am well aware that scarcely a single point is discussed in this volume on which facts cannot
be adduced, often apparently leading to conclusions directly opposite to those at which I have
arrived. A fair result can be obtained only by fully stating and balancing the facts and arguments
on both sides of each question; and this cannot possibly be here done."
So anyways, there you go. And man would I have loved to have an Original First Copy with the green leather cover. LOL

SGT Kevin Hughes I think I should like to read this work by Darwin, in order to expand my knowledge base.

Get ready to spend a few hours a day, wading through very detailed and hesitant recounts of how he reached his decisions. It truly takes slow deep reading...but it is worth it.
