Like a lot of us here on RP, I got to travel...a lot. A bunch of States, Canada, Mexico, and a whole host of other countries. Big Cities, little towns, and even some "middle of nowhere" places. So it always amazes me that some folk don't get to travel much. And even if you offered to pay all expenses they still wouldn't go. And that reminded me of a good friend's wife and I having a chat.
She bragged about never having been more than 14 miles from where she was born. And she was sixty two at the time.
Well, 14 miles was enough to put her on the other side of town...barely. So I said: "You did go to the West Side. What was that like?"
Her answer still makes me laugh.
"People over there are weird."
What in the world would she think of someone from another country, if she thinks folks from the other side of town are "weird."

I Know What You Are Talking About, Having Been A Marine From 1979 -1985 I Had Been Been To A Few States And Other Countries
When I Met My Current Wife In 1984 She Had Never Been Out Of The State Of Maryland At The Age Of 21 .
She Can’t Say That Now After Multiple Cross Country Driving Trips,Being Stationed In A Few States After I Went Back Into The Army, And With Two Of Our Children Living In States That Are Hundreds Of Miles Away From Us And Having A Cabin In Maine We Have Been To A lot Of States And Frequently Go To Ontario And New Brunswick.
We Are Planning A Cross Country Driving Trip To Alaska Next Year.

I've been on cross-country road trips on three continents. Now I'm living in a small midwestern town adjacent to the State in which I was born. Most folks here seem to have lived in the area their whole lives. One man I asked said, "Nah, man. I haven't lived here my whole life. I was born thirty minutes from here."

I know some people like that and I can't imagine being that way. After 6 years in Germany, 4 in the UK, almost 3 in Turkey and a lot of European TDYs...those are some of my favorite memories.
