I read the post where the kid was in a tree and the caption was: "We didn't worry about getting hurt, we worried about what Mom would say." And yeah...I had that experience. LOL
So in Cleveland, there is a big bridge on West 25th Street that goes over the Cuyahoga River. The Official name is: The Detroit/Superior Bridge. Even tho it was also named : "The Veteran's Memorial Bridge." And it was on West 25th street for the whole way.
It was a scary bridge for us eight and nine year old kids to walk across. We had to walk over it to get to West Side Farmer's Market, and the Toy Departments of Higbees, Hale's, May Company...etc. And to get to the Terminal Tower too.
So one day, for some silly reason, me and three of my friends, all of us just nine years old decided to climb the art you see in the picture.
Well, I am afraid of Heights. So was Roderick. Michael and Nick bailed after just a few feet. But Roddy and I, the two scared of heights kids...climbed the highest. People started to stop their cars to yell at us to get down.
Then the cops showed up.
Well, we climbed back down under their supervision. The Cops were glad we were okay...and let us know we should never do that again...or else. We said we were sorry. The Cops let us know that if we fell, we would have died. And that the river was so filled with chemical and oil that we would have burned to death before we drowned. They painted a truly horrendous way to go.
We cried and said we would never do it again.
And away we went.
All was fine. Until...
Roddy and I were walking with my Mom, coming back from Fischer Food's grocery store a couple days later. A cop car pulled up, and asked my Mom how we were doing after being scared out of our minds from climbing the bridge.
Well, Mom had no clue.
And, as Ricky Ricardo said: "Lucy, you got some 'splainin" to do."
Roddy and I had to stand up to eat supper that night.
