Fun Fact: Average height/weight of an ancient warrior.
I am a short man, at only 5'6". Yeah, I have short man's complex a bit. I was always volunteering for whatever duties in order to make a name for myself (otherwise everyone just looked over/past me). I was quite pleased, then, in my studies to learn that the average height/weight of a Roman soldier was around 5'6" and 145lbs...my height and weight. Of course, the modern "giant" height of men today is because of a better diet, etc., but there is still something nice about being the same height/weight of the most elite soldier in history, lol. Any other short people out there find this interesting?

Also, taller people don't live as long: http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2013/07/height_and_longevity_the_research_is_clear_being_tall_is_hazardous_to_your.html

I read a book once when I was a teen, set in the 1800s, where the main character referenced being pleased he topped 6 feet as a grown man. From that point on, that was my goal, to be 6ft! (Mom is 5-2, Dad is 5-8.)
I hit 5-10 in HS, and the only growing I did from then was bulk (some great , some I need to lose).
Of course I feel about average as an American male, and Soldier, but when I see a 6 footer, I always wonder...
I married a 5-8 woman whose father was 6-4, so perhaps some of my kids will top 6ft.
Regardless, I'm happy with my height as a Soldier and know that as long as I maintain my strength I'll continue to be able to do great things, even if 2 inches less than 6ft.

Sir my ex is 6ft tall. I'm 5'3. My son is 23 and is over 6 ft tall and my daughter who is 11 is already my height. There's hope for your kids! lol

While I am the oldest of 3 brothers, I am the shortest at 5'11" (my brothers are 6'1" and 6'2"). Of course, being the oldest, anytime they try to rub it in my face that they're taller, I punch them in the stomach and they have to double over (thereby becoming shorter than me again), lol...

My grandfather was 6'0". He fell and broke his back in his shop when I was MUCH younger. When he was recuperated, they checked his height again... He had lost an inch and was 5'11".

This is an interesting historical tidbit. I'm not a "short" person or vertically challenged, but at 71" I feel about average to most current military.

SFC James Sczymanski , MAJ (Join to see) in my 14 yrs I was only measured as 72" once (after my first tour in Iraq) and I weighed in at 199. It was the first and only time (so far) that I was not taped! I work hard to stay under the body fat allowance, so at this point I'm a firm believer that some are just genetically predisposed to larger frames. Never failed an APFT though!

1SG (Join to see) Yea, for my height I'm supposed to be like 180 lbs or something. I was 178 lbs after coming back from Afghanistan and everyone said I looked "sick". I've been taped every PFT since joining.

I think James Madison was like 5'4". Washington at around 6'2" was considered a GIANT.

SGT Justin Singleton Washington was considered a giant. There was a story about how he got volunteered for everything because he was the tallest guy in the room. He'd be only a little over average now, but he was literally a head taller than everyone else back then.

That makes sense. I used to try to volunteer for things because I knew that the only way to make a name for myself with the command was to do so. With that said, the tallest people were still the ones to get the special assignments, etc.
