More of a Vent than a Question: Soldier in ACUs wearing an ACU do-rag...

After 12 years, I shouldn't be *too* shocked by now, but...

This early morning while stopping for some breakfast liquid fuel, I saw a Soldier coming out of her vehicle.

If I'd been able to move faster, I would have asked her for her info, but I couldn't even make out the unit SSI, nor her tametape. I did see the SPC rank, however, though that shouldn't be a condemning factor.

As she gets out, she puts her uniform together, ties the boots right, and squares herself away.

Except...

For the ACU do-rag she's wearing. No PC, no ACH, no beret... just the do-rag.

Now, is there some uniform accessorization that I don't know about authorizing an ACU do-rag when off-post in a POV or mingling amongst the public?

And, where would a Soldier get 1) the idea that a do-rag is an acceptable and authorized headgear, and 2) to believe it so much so as to ensure it was ACU patterned?

I got all misty eyed about a week ago. It was 1700 on Davis-Monthan and the music started playing. I saw a few in uniform running for the door and I let out a good old fashioned thunderous "FREEZE!" despite being old, fat, and civilian and heard a SMSgt say "I got it." I heard "take one more step and you're done." I don't care what branch you're in. Standards are standards, and that NCO pounced as soon as the music stopped. Hitomi wondered why they didn't get hit. I guess the Japanese NCO's get to take it up a notch. One good a$$ chewing early in the career is sometimes all it takes to set a sub-standard green suiter on the right track. Do not disgrace our uniform.

Msgt Townsend since I joined the air force last year I have been really lax on what I have said to anyone because I don't want to get written up for being to harsh and having someone get a case of the butt hurt... I've been told a lot that I need to remember I'm not an nco anymore

SFC Mark Merino, I not only work at DM but also shop at the BX and commissary. I admit that I was taken aback the first time I heard the music playing at 1700. In the Navy we always did Colors at sunset.
I was driving along and all of a sudden the car in front of me pulls over. I think "Okay..." and passed him. He honked at me and I was thinking "Is he trying to talk to me???" I start slowing down and turned down my radio and that's when I heard the music.
That was my "Doh!" moment, lol.

SrA Zachary Wolf, Get with your supervisor and ask them what are his/her expectations of you. Ask for an informal performance review. Afterwards tell them what your expectations are of them (use tact!!!!!). It is very simple. You are subject to standards and orders, but your supervisor(s) are also answerable to you. IF you get wrote up for enforcing a standard I would suggest going to Area Defense Council. Or even mention the contacting the ADC over the issue. They can assist in writing rebuttles and other legal issues. KNOW YOUR Rights and LIMITATIONS.

Enforcing standards is what we do. It is one of our duties and an important part of our job.

Feel free to message me if you ever need help.

You know it is not authorized. When you leave your dwelling or work place you need to be in proper uniform. You can't get dressed halfway and then square yourself away when you get to work. People are watching always, and you represent the Army. Do-Rags, etc. are not authorized. Hopefully you made a professional and timely correction. SSG Alleria Stanley

@SSG Walter Stanley I have seen this on one occassion and the Soldier had a major surgery on there head and the patrol cap band was to tight across the area so the Doc gave them a do-rag as headgear to keept he area covered and it was on a profile.

I have ran into this myself at a PX parking lot. I saw a Soldier walking towards the PX with no head gear on. I stopped him and before I even said anything else he said, "1SG I have a profile because I had a head wound". He then proceeded to show me his profile.
