Throughout your career, what was your worst military experience?

Can you recall a specific instance in time where you thought that you have had it in the military?

Did you ever have an experience where you decided you would never sign another contract?

Share your story! This should get interesting...

SSG (Join to see) When I left Vietnam, I went to Okinawa for three or four days to get the rest of my gear that I had left there, get shots, get cleaned up, etc. While there, A Marine that had just arrived from our unit told me that my best friend had been killed the day after I left country. This was a shock and made me sad and angry. When I arrived in the states, I made my way to LAX for leave. At LAX, there was a welcoming committee of protestors that were trying to block our way, yelling at us, trying to get a reaction, and being a big pain in the ass. This was another shock, because I was coming home to a country that I did not recognize. I was in uniform, as I always flew military standby, and wearing the uniform was required. I was asked how babies had I killed, told to repent for my sins, and other things. They were shouting as if we could not hear them. I was still in a funk about my best buddy being killed, and one of hardest things that I have ever done was not tearing into these scumbags.

PO2 Bronwen Taylor Shaffner - Thank you! I appreciate the kind words, and I recognize the sacrifices made by my fellow brothers and sisters.

SFC (Join to see) - Unfortunately not. My mother was born there. Lived in Poland for 10 years. Even with my last name, surprisingly, my father doesn't speak. My mother never spoke polish around me, she barely remembers herself.

Several. Loss of best friend, a LOH pilot, an incident of Fratricide resulting from bad commo, one insane RLO (Stateside), and the hatred and distain of fellow Americans and all the vitriol.
