"Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States" was instrumental in winning the Revolutionary War. It increased the discipline and sanitation necessary for the good order of the Army. The drills alone cut down the time for loading and firing by the use of economical steps which increased the amount of firepower. We still employ similar sanitation practices for the welfare and health of our troops. NCOs today can still benefit by its reading.

Baron von Stueben's accomplishments were still taught when I was in basic training in 1984 and he is given immense credit for helping to save the continental army from what would have been certain defeat after the winter it spent at Valley Forge. When he arrived there, the continental army at the time was suffering from starvation and disease that would have definitely reduced its numbers to the point where it would have been completely ineffective as a fighting force by the time it would have been needed in battle. With his methods and training practices, along with the measure implemented to improve sanitation, it could be said that MG von Steuben quite literally saved the revolution....
Just my opinion...

That is a great short. He took the best 100-120 soldiers as a training company and they in turn trained others. That Prussian discipline has served us well.

Thanks SGT (Join to see). Growing up around Philadelphia I visited Valley Forge many times in the 1960s before I enlisted in 1974.
I learned about his role in the training of the continental army primarily as a cadet at USMA in military history.
