Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to this edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for February 8, 2025.
This image from Rosario, Argentina was taken in the early evening of February 1st. In astronomy, a conjunction occurs when two objects 'appear' (from an Earth-bound viewpoint) to be close to each other in the sky. And so we have our Moon and the planet Venus.
Alongside Venus’s brilliance (mentioned in today's APOD), February 14 also offers a chance to see the zodiacal light...a faint, triangular glow in the western sky after dusk. The zodiacal light is caused by sunlight reflecting off interplanetary dust particles scattered across the solar system, a subtle reminder of processes that brought us into being in the first place.
