PO1 William "Chip" Nagel
COMMENT - "I worked in security dispatch for a casino for a number of years and we had one openly trans person who worked there. Every day I said good night as she was leaving without much of an acknowledgment until one day, she actually came back and said “thank you”. I asked for what? She said for consistently speaking to them everyday with kindness. I was floored. My response was “why wouldn’t I?” She responded that most people don’t. I was honored and heartbroken at the same time. Being a good person is so much easier than being a hateful one. And she was lovely. Just treat people as you would want to be treated. I didn’t do anything special, I treated her just like I treated everyone else but to know I made a difference in her day was humbling. Humanity, let’s do that!"
