The Neighbor kids got a kitten and a puppy about two weeks ago. Beyond the cuteness (I don't know about you, but little anythings, including babies, just melt my heart) they showed me how the kitten and the dog have bonded.
The Mother of the young kids said that if you grow up together, it doesn't matter what you look like, or how different you are... you can become lifetime friends.
And that, to me, is one of the most profound statements I have ever heard. Maybe us Humans need to ponder that a bit.

It's incredible how animals can form such strong bonds, regardless of their differences. Some years back we had three dogs and a cat. The Cat grew up with the dogs and would go out when they went out and com in when they came in. She still used a litter box, but in and out with the dogs.
