When I was a kid, I read Comics almost daily. It was all DC comic books back then. Marvel hadn't hit the market yet. I had whole collections of Sgt. Rock, and Easy Company, and of course, Jeb Stuart and his haunted tank. You could learn a lot of History from snippets of conversations in those Comic Books.
A lot of my perspective about World War II, came from the characters in those books. And when I played with my little green Army men, I would often stage the battles from the comic books in my back yard.
I don't think there were any comic books about Vietnam or Korea...none that I know of anyway. And there is probably a Social Science PH.D for the reasons why. But I loved my Combat Comic Books.

One of these days I'll get around to writing a Command Post article laying out all the different things you can gets from the DoD libraries (assuming you meet the eligibility criteria*).
One of the things I enjoy, usually in the summer when I go on a reading binge, is checking out the digital versions of comics of complete series, sitting in my gazebo and just spending an enjoyable day outside (looking at the MWR database now, it shows over 20k "comic and graphic books" available.

@sgt Kevin Hughes I learned about t years ago that the early comics used humor to voice feelings about the early wars and government. (Dr. Guess, Winnie the Pooh author Milne, Nursery Rhymes like Humpty Dumpty)
