This is why many people in Vicksburg don't celebrate the 4th of July.

That's understandable, those were bad times for both sides. Vicksburg got the worst of it. It was a sad time pitting father against sons and brothers against each. Civil War is still part of our history and shouldn't be erased. Every generation should be taught this so we don't repeat it again

I dont know if it was growing up an Army Brat that peaked my Interests in the wars in History. I read about the Civil War, WW2 and the Korean War. I was living in Germany as a kid and saw the aftermath of the 2nd world War. I was in Germany in 1951 and I was young but I remember the carnage and bombed building's. I saw Dachau when I was 10 or 11 yrs old and it was still fresh. I read about the battles in the South Pacific and I read all about the Philippines said I want to go there some day and I finally did when I joined the Navy after got out of the Army in 1975. I joined the Army in July 1966 after I graduated from high school. I think part of it was because I was an Army Brat but I also felt obligated to go to Vietnam. Watching the news reels of Vietnam made if more of an obligation.
