Back in the bleak years of the Iraq war there was an Eisenhower Security Seminar looking at COIN at Carlisle Barracks that brought together a lot of the folks that would later bring into play the COIN doctrine - and it started by us watching Battle of Algiers and pulling apart what we saw. :)

Now you know of the source -- and it is an excellent one. Peru's military structure was based on the German model with a general staff and schools. Today -- their War College at CEEEP produces some great articles and military thinking...
