How does one earn both the CIB and CAB with no prior enlistment experience and only have served as an Infantry Officer?

I was reading the bio of retired Major General Mark O'Neil and found it strange how he has earned both the CIB, and CAB, despite joining the army as an 11A.

How would this be possible?

Here is the bio in question.

Typical Bio for a MG. These guys pick up badges, medals, awards, and not everything is reflected in their bio’s.

If you look at the units he’s commanding you’d know he probably had combat experience that can’t be disclosed in a bio. If I was you I’d not ask what an officer did to earn his badges . It’s actually quite easy to ge both of your in two different areas of work in a career. Especially deployed.

I think you've misinterpreted the tone of my question

For several years a soldier holding 11 series and another MOS could earn both on different deployments. Any 11 series deployed in a non Infantry para-line such as 00F etc.. can and should be awarded a CAB. Several years ago the rules were changed so that you couldn't earn both anymore. Whichever you get 1st, can't get the other. I have my CIB from Infantry and CAB from Combat Engineer. There aren't many and it wasn't something I went after. Just happened. Hope that helps.

I concur SFC Layman, I (11B) also have a CAB from Iraq while attached to an MP unit and then in Afghanistan a CIB as an 11B. Of course, I only wore my CIB because I am 11B and you cannot wear both due to AR 670-1.
